Edit custom test steps
Custom steps define the actions FormStatus performs during a test. A manual recording can provide a starting workflow that you can maintain without recording it again.
Open the workflow
Section titled “Open the workflow”Open Forms, find the form, and choose Edit. The form must be active to edit its test configuration. Review the steps under Test Configuration.
Steps run in order from top to bottom. You can edit their type, description, CSS selector, and value; add or delete steps; and drag steps into a different order.
| Type | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Click | A CSS selector for the button, checkbox, radio button, or other control. |
| Type | A CSS selector for the field and the test value to enter. |
| Wait | A delay in milliseconds, such as 1000 for one second. |
Use a description to make each step easy to recognize. Prefer stable selectors such as #email or input[name="first_name"]. In Chrome DevTools, inspect an element and use Copy > Copy selector as a starting point, then check that it identifies the intended control.
Save and test
Section titled “Save and test”Choose Save Changes to save the workflow. Use the adjacent menu’s Save and Test option to save and immediately run it.
If a field is not found, inspect the current website and update its selector. If a page transition or dynamic field is not ready before the next action, add a Wait step where needed. Supply valid values for every required field.
Review the resulting test details and available recording after each change. Email testing is configured separately and requires the WordPress companion plugin.
